Charter of Organization for the Baronial Guard of the Barony of Raven’s Fort
Kingdom of Ansteorra
Purpose
- Ceremonial support during court and processions
- Escorts, assistance and logistic support for the Baron and Baroness and visiting Royalty
- Interactive support staff at Baronial Events
- Provide sentries for meetings
- Act as Ambassadors for the Barony at events and demos
- A Military unit in the line of battle
- Other duties as assigned by the Baron and Baroness
Organization
- Captain of the Guard
- Lieutenant of the Guard
- Up to 12 additional members
Membership
- Selection
- one member is recommended to the Guard by the Baron
- one member is recommended to the Guard by the Baroness
- one member is recommended to the Guard by the Seneschal
- six members are recommended to the Guard by the active households of the Barony
- five members are recommended to the Guard by Guard members
- Captain, in consultation with the Baron and Baroness, retains the right of 1st refusal
- Requirements/Terms of Service
- active member of the Barony for the past 6 months or more
- maintain membership in the SCA, Inc (at any level)
- willing to make a minimum of 18-24 month commitment to attendance and service to the Barony and the Guard
- inactive members (more than six months) will have their status reviewed
- Guard members may voluntarily resign for any reason, at any time
Officers
- Election
- Captain will be elected by the members OR appointed by the Baron and Baroness
- Lieutenant will elected by the members
- upon retirement, removal, or resignation of the Captain or Lieutenant an election will be held as soon as possible

Oversee all Guard activities
Oversee all Guard elections
Organize or assist in the organization of Guard activities in court and other events
Lead the Guard in times of war or appoint a unit commander if needed.
Oversee the removal of Guard members when needed
Oversee the payment of the Guard
Assist the officers, royals and others as needed in activities of the Barony
Other duties as assigned by the Baron and Baroness
- Lieutenant
To work with the Captain or as assigned by the captain in carrying out the activities of the Guard
Keep a written record of meetings
Other duties as assigned by the Captain or Baron and Baroness
Uniform
- Court
- Black cloak/cape with 2’ red trim around the sides and bottom, red ties at neck, large white roundel on back with a black raven facing right within it
- Other details will be at the members’ discretion
- Member retains cloak/cape upon retirement/resignation
- Other activities
-Members may wear a tunic (red with black trim, raven on front facing right), baldric (red with black trim with roundel on front with a black raven facing right within it), or their court cape/cloak as they desire.
-Members are to return tunic/baldric to Guard at time of retirement/resignation
Induction of New Members
- Presented in court where they will give an oath of service the Guard and Barony and presented with their uniform (baldric or tunic)
-May only be inducted by the Baron and Baroness with the Captain and other Guard members present
Payment
-Guard members will be paid by the Baron and Baroness each year at Defender of the Fort
-Payment of the guard will be agreed upon in advance by the Baron and Baroness in consultation with the Captain
